Brownian noise, also called Brown noise decreases 6.02 dB per octave with increasing frequency. Compared to white and pink noise, brown noise is more focussed on low frequencies. Therefore, it is more comfortable to listen to for most people. Brown noise can help you to relax, increase your concentration or improve your sleep. It can also be used as a support in therapy for tinnitus. The pleasant monotonous noise is strongly reminiscent of a waterfall or the sound of the sea.

The terms “Brown Noise” or “Brownian Noise” for the 1 / f² noise do not refer to the color brown, but come from the Scottish botanist and namesake Robert Brown.
