Bach - Orchestral Suite no. 1 in C major BWV 1066 - Sato | Netherlands Bach Society
Orchestral Suite no. 1 in C major, performed by the Netherlands Bach Society for All of Bach, is in the style and atmosphere of the dance music written by Lully at the court of Louis the Fourteenth: a series of French stylised dances. Nowadays, we call this a suite, but at the time it was known as an Overture, or opening piece. As a tribute to the king, such a succession of dances began with a stately opening that had a remarkably staccato rhythm – to which the king could make his entrance. However, we do not know why or for whom Bach composed this and other of his instrumental pieces.
Recorded for the project All of Bach on November 30th 2014 at TivoliVredenburg, Utrecht. If you want to help us complete All of Bach, please subscribe to our channel http://bit.ly/2vhCeFB and consider donating http://bit.ly/2uZuMj5.
