We absolutely love this song! The melody, harmonies, and lyrics are so infectious. When Disturbed covered it a few years ago, they reimagined Simon and Garfunkel's song into something haunting, yet still beautiful. We took cues from both versions when arranging this one and had so much fun working on it. We hope you enjoy - it's one of our favourites!

Lyrics:
Hello darkness, my old friend
I've come to talk with you again
Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence
In restless dreams I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone
'Neath the halo of a street lamp
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light
That split the night
And touched the sound of silence
And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more
People talking without speaking
People hearing without listening
People writing songs that voices never share
And no one dared
Disturb the sound of silence
Fools, said I, you do not know
Silence like a cancer grows
Hear my words that I might teach you
Take my arms that I might reach you
But my words, like silent raindrops fell
And echoed in the wells of silence
And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made
And the sign flashed out its warning
In the words that it was forming
And the sign said, the words of the prophets are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls
And whispered in the sounds of silence

Brooklyn Duo Bio:
Founded in 2014, Brooklyn Duo has quickly established itself as one of todayβs most successful classical crossover ensembles. Through its creative arrangements and live video performances, the piano and cello duo has garnered a huge following, with over 500,000 YouTube subscribers, and over 150 million streams annually on platforms such as Spotify and Pandora Radio.
On a whim, the couple arranged and recorded two pop covers and released them on YouTube. Shakira noticed the duoβs cover of her song Empire and promoted it to her 130 million-plus fan base, saying: βWe're loving Brooklyn Duo's piano/cello cover of Empire! Great work guys." The boost that resulted from that exposure and the positive response they were getting on YouTube encouraged the couple to continue creating videos.
Since then, Marnie and Patrick have released over 70 videos on their Brooklyn Duo YouTube channel and 7 albums of covers, spanning artists from The Beatles to Metallica to Taylor Swift (who also tweeted about them, saying their cover of her song βBlank Spaceβ sounded "like a song people should walk down the aisle to"). In 2016, the couple started a second YouTube channel, Brooklyn Classical, with the goal of introducing classical music to a larger audience. With this new channel, Marnie and Patrick aim to showcase high quality, live performances of classical music. Brooklyn Classical often hosts high-profile guest artists, including the world-renowned Dover and Escher string quartets and percussionist Ivan Trevino.
In 2017, Marnie and Patrick partnered with Carnegie Hall and Ensemble Connect, a collective of some of the best young musicians in the U.S., to produce a cover of a-haβs βTake On Meβ. The video went viral and garnered millions of views in just a few months. Popular classical music stations Classic FM and WQXR regularly share Brooklyn Duoβs music on their social media pages, with Classic FM calling the duo βmasters of the artfully planned pop cover.β One of their covers was also recently featured in an episode of ABCβs Greyβs Anatomy.

Research in environmental psychology has demonstrated that rain sounds belong to a category called 'pink noise' - sounds that have equal energy per octave. Unlike white noise, pink noise more closely mimics natural sound patterns, which the human brain finds inherently calming. Studies published in the Journal of Theoretical Biology found that pink noise can enhance deep sleep by synchronizing brain waves with the sound patterns. The rhythmic, predictable nature of rainfall activates the parasympathetic nervous system, triggering a relaxation response that reduces heart rate and blood pressure.
