Operated jointly by Ferrovie Autolinee Regionali Ticinesi (FART) in Switzerland and Società Subalpina Imprese Ferroviarie (SSIF) in Italy, the railway serves as a vital link between the Simplon and Gotthard lines, enhancing regional connectivity. ​

Passengers can choose between the classic Centovalli Express and the modern panoramic trains, which feature large windows for unobstructed views of the surrounding landscapes. ​

Departing from the historic town of Domodossola, the train embarks on a journey through a landscape dotted with charming villages, dense chestnut forests, and cascading waterfalls.
As the train approaches Locarno, passengers are treated to sweeping views of Lake Maggiore, culminating in a descent into the city's underground station. This ride not only showcases the natural splendor of the region but also highlights the seamless blend of cultural heritage and modern rail travel. ​
