Cab Ride Munich - Innsbruck - Brenner (Germany - Austria - Italy, July 2025) train driver's view 4K
In this video you can enjoy the cab ride - train driver's view on a journey from Munich Hauptbahnhof in Germany to the historic alpine gateway at Brenner, ascending through Germany, Austria, and into Italy — captured in 4K/60 frames per second.
The trip begins on the Munich–Rosenheim line, a 65 km double-track mainline electrified at 15 kV 16.7 Hz, allowing speeds up to 160 km/h. Opened in 1871, this vital artery forms part of TEN‑T Core Network Line 1, connecting Paris to Bratislava and Budapest. At Rosenheim, we smoothly transition onto the Rosenheim–Kufstein railway, a 32 km double-track section opened in 1858. Also electrified at 15 kV, it permits regional trains to link the Munich–Salzburg corridor with the Innsbruck and Brenner trunk route. Maximum line speed is 140 km/h. Crossing into Austria at Kufstein, the train follows the Lower Inn Valley Railway, stretching approximately 75 km through Tyrol to Innsbruck. This line, dating to 1858, has been expanded under the “New Lower Inn Valley” upgrade. A 40 km stretch between Kundl and Baumkirchen now supports speeds up to 250 km/h using modern ETCS Level 2 signaling and largely underground tunnels to minimise environmental impact. We pass through the Innsbruck bypass tunnel—a 12.7 km grade-separated freight line opened in 1994. This detour keeps through traffic outside of Innsbruck station and noise out of the city. From Innsbruck, the ride continues on the classic Brenner Railway: a vital international route descending from the Alps through the Brenner Pass at 1,371 m above sea level. Still the same standard gauge, double‑track line, operable for both 15 kV (AT) and 3 kV DC (IT), with maximum speeds up to 180 km/h and gradients of 25‰.
This route showcases engineering feats, from riverside valleys to Alpine tunnels, spiral curves, and lush mountain valleys. It's part of the Berlin–Palermo corridor and soon to be served by the Brenner Base Tunnel, dramatically reducing journey times once fully operational—and already relieving capacity on the classic route.
