Clicker Training Basics: How to Introduce the Clicker for Dogs
In today’s video, I will show you how to “charge” a clicker. Clicker training for dogs has been around for quite some time, but I am just beginning to discover how awesome it is! Charging the clicker is the first step in clicker training a puppy of any breed.
Basically, this is how we get your retriever puppy stoked about the clicker so that you can use it in your training sessions. Clickers work especially well when it comes to the obedience commands and other simple behaviors
A clicker is relatively new in the world of bird dogs and hunting. The clicker has been used for training dogs in all other areas for a very long time.
There is still some debate surrounding whether or not a clicker can be used to get a finished retriever ready for AKC hunt tests and field trials. As the clicker edges its way into the hunting dog scene more and more, I imagine we will find more trainers putting that assumption to the test.
I have started using a clicker with Odin. It is the first Lab puppy I have ever tried to train with a clicker, and I have been really excited about how well it works so far. Granted, we are still only in the obedience part of his training.
