In this short video, I'll show you how to manually drain an LG washing machine. But the process is similar with other brands as well. No matter if you have a broken pump, OE error or the power is out... here's how to manually drain a front loading washing machine.
Before starting grab a deep baking sheet or pan and have it handy. The larger the better to catch all the water. Next, find the access panel on the front of the washer and remove the door if possible. Now detach the drain tube inside. It's a good idea to lay down a towel to soak up extra water that might spill out. Then place the pan or cookie sheet next to the washer.
With the tube hovering over the pan, remove the drain plug. And immediately whatever water is still inside the washer will pour out. If the washer is really full you might have to plug it back up to empty the pan and then start draining again. My pan is quite shallow but if you have a lasagna dish, that would work perfect here.
When the water stops, reinsert the drain plug. Last thing to do is remove the coin trap and let any leftover water to run out. This is where having a towel on the floor really helps! Then fasten the trap back in. If your washer doesn't have a front access panel, you'll likely have to access the pump or drain tube from underneath. It'll always be somewhere at the bottom of the washer because it'll located at the lowest point. Now just wipe up any remaining water and reinstall the drain cover.
As you can see, manually draining a front loading washing machine is very easy to do. Now if you have pump issues that's a whole other repair that's not covered in this video. But I'll leave a link to my pump replacement tutorial at the end slate.
