The operation ended with the demolition of several buildings. According to media reports, even the offshore reef located a mile and a half out to the sea near Innsmouth was shelled with torpedoes.
The investigation was the result of a terrifying eyewitness account by a young student who had traveled to the remote town six months earlier.
