How To Install A Shower Drain

Let’s hook the drain up on this shower.
They started by putting plumber’s putty around the top part of the drain.
The guys tipped the shower down on its front so that one of them could hold the drain while the other tightened it.
This drain comes with a bracket for tightening- it fits into the drain and has a slot for a flat screwdriver.
They removed the extra putty and threw it back in the jug.
Here’s the trap they used.
There’s always water trapped in the lower section so that no sewer gas can come up.
Once the guys measured and laid out the location of the drain, they glued-up the trap using purple primer and PVC cement.
I’m sure there’s other ways to install a drain, but I’m showing you how these guys did it.
We’ve been using this company since we got started in construction- and we’ve never had a leak.
Finally, they put glue on the drain and carefully lowered the shower into place.
After checking that the shower was plumb, I screwed it into place.
These showers come with holes from the factory, but they often don’t line up with the studs; so I drilled some additional holes.
If you’re wondering why we did a fiberglass shower instead of tile- it’s because this is going in an auto body shop so the guys can clean up after work if they need to.
