Cues for the correct production of R sound:
Try placing your tongue for /l/ first - then pull it back while gliding on the roof of your mouth to produce "r" (LEARN)
More cues:
JAW open
Tongue flexed (flat) "ee"
pull tongue tip up and back
flair out lips
pull tongue up and back
(This is the retroflexed /r/)
Progressions:
/r/ in isolation 8/10 times (sound by itself)
/r/ in a syllable 8/10 times imitated "ray, ree, rye, row" (someone says it first, then you say it)
/r/ at syllable level 8/10 times independently produced
/r/ in initial position of word with words that end in /k/ and /g/ 8/10 times imitatively
------ rag, wreck, rig, rug, rack, reek, rake, etc
/r/ in initial position of words independently produced 8/10 times
/r/ word used in a short phrase imitatively/independently 8/10 times "a rake"
/r/ words used in a short sentences imitative and then independently 8/10 times "I Rang the bell"
monitor /r/ words in conversational exchanges + VOCALIC /r/ and final /r/
