Hi, I’m Nico Murillo, and I got laid off from Tesla on 4/15/2024. I was a Production Supervisor making $120k/yr, and was with the company for 5 years. I started in 2019, as an entry level Production Associate at $19/hr. After getting laid off, had to make the decision to sell the $1.2M house. Me, my little brother and my parents decided to sell most of our belongings and I decided to move into my 2021 Tesla Model Y. When I worked at Tesla, I slept in my car on work days to avoid my 3 hour round trip commute time from Lathrop, Ca to Fremont, Ca. I created a platform in my trunk with the use of Michaels, Home Depot products, and a soft mattress, where I now call my home. Living in my car enables me to save money, and invest it. I am documenting my journey to financial independence by 2029. My hope is that by sharing my own personal highs and lows along this (sometimes) wild journey, you might be inspired to look into financial independence. Maybe one day i'll see you out on the open road.
