All the evidence was there when “Super Far” showed up back in 2017. LANY knew how to traverse the byways of a pop song. Vibe, refrain, hook, texture, attitude – they all blended into a rather perfect nugget. But that was a long time ago. The LA-based pop-rockers have proven themselves several times since. “Malibu Nights,” “if this is the last time,” “dancing in the kitchen” – the group keeps on coming up with cool motifs that marry inspired lyrics with evocative subjects. And there’s often a touch of humor involved somewhere (check the toothbrushes used by singer Paul Jason Klein and drummer Jake Clifford Goss in the official vid for “Love At First Fight”). That latest LANY gem is part of ‘a beautiful blur,’ which arrived September 29 and was produced by the guys’ pal, Mike Crossey, who has worked plenty with them previously. Klein and Goss were hitting the target when they came into our studio for a run through “First Fight” and “It Even Rains In LA.” Slightly reduced in tempos, the songs reveal another, more poignant, part of their personalities.
