Relaxing Thunder and Rain + Panning Low-Frequency Green Noise, Black Screen • 12hrs • No midroll ads
This is the sound of relaxing thunder echoing through the sky set against calming rain and a special variant of green noise. I designed it specifically to exclude thunder that I found to be jarring so you can put your mind at ease while listening. The green noise in this video has a slight stereo panning effect and decreased high frequencies. Green noise, sometimes described as "the background noise of the world," pairs quite nicely with the thunder and rain in a way that can help you relax and get some sleep, and may alleviate the effects of tinnitus. Enjoy, and rest well.

Fun fact: this audio was nearly a YEAR in the making throughout 2024, and I'm very proud of the result! Here's how I did it:
1. February-June: I recorded thunderstorms near my home.
2. September: I trimmed the ~72 hours of audio down to ~12 hours that actually included thunder.
3. October-November: I isolated ~2 hours of pure thunder and processed it to remove rain and other background noise. I then listened to the hundreds of samples and rated them each on their features (crackles, claps, peals, rolls, and rumbles) and whether I found them to be jarring.
4. December: I wrote a program in C# to weave samples together based on those parameters and a few other random elements, making it so I can generate an engineered but unique soundscape with the push of a button.
Another fun fact: green noise is not an "official" color of noise, so there may be multiple interpretations of how it should sound. I crafted mine using this definition attributed to J. Russell Lemon: "As I remember, it was flat from 500 Hz to about 2 kHz and then rolled off at 9 db/octave. Below 500 Hz it rolled off at 6 db ?? per octave."
