🙏 करचरण कृतं वाक्कायजं कर्मजं वा — The Ultimate Shiva Forgiveness Mantra to cleanse your karma, dissolve ego, and surrender completely to Mahadeva Shambho. This ancient Sanskrit prayer, often attributed to Adi Shankaracharya's teachings, is not just a request for forgiveness but a deep confession of ignorance (Avidya); a humble bow before the Consciousness (Shiva) within.

In this mantra, we acknowledge our mistakes made through hands, feet, speech, body, mind, hearing, and seeing — knowingly or unknowingly — and seek Shiva's compassionate grace to transcend the illusion of doership (Ahamkara).

When we pray to Shiva for forgiveness (like in “करचरण कृतं वाक्कायजं…”), we are not asking an external God for pardon, but rather, we are acknowledging our identification with the body, mind, and ego (Avidya/Ignorance).

Seeking forgiveness becomes a symbolic surrender of the ego: a way of purifying ourselves from false identification with actions (karma), senses, and mind, and remembering that our true Self is ever-pure, ever-free (Shiva-Svarupa).

In Shankara’s words, we don’t seek forgiveness because Shiva is angry ;
We seek forgiveness because we forgot that we are Shiva (Atman/Brahman).

Thus, this mantra is “a dissolution of the ego, a confession of false doership.”

THROUGH SPEECH, THROUGH BODY, THROUGH ACTIONS,
WHATEVER FAULTS HAVE MANIFESTED THROUGH HEARING, SEEING, OR THE MIND,
WHETHER DEEMED RIGHT OR WRONG BY THE WORLD,
ALL THESE ARE BUT IGNORANCE (AVIDYA) BORN OF FALSE IDENTIFICATION WITH THE BODY-MIND.
O SHIVA, THE OCEAN OF COMPASSION, WHO IS NONE OTHER THAN MY TRUE SELF,
BESTOW THE GRACE OF KNOWLEDGE THAT DESTROYS THIS ILLUSION OF DOERSHIP (AHAMKARA).
