English Pronunciation | The Letter ' i ' | 10+ Ways to Pronounce the Letter ɪ in English!

👉 In this English Pronunciation lesson, I'm going to to help you learn how to pronounce the letter I/i in English. In this lesson there are 10+ ways to pronounce the letter i. Some of these are common and some are less common.

👉 The Letter i in English is a VOWEL letter and is pronounced in the alphabet as /aɪ/.

👉 The letter i can also be pronounced in English with any of the following sounds....

As /ɪ/ in Kit, Fit, Mirror
As /aɪə/ in Fire, Hire, Wire
As /aɪ/ in Price, Nice, Dice
As /ə / in Recipe, Possible, Confirmation
As /i:/ in Ski, Taxi, Mini
As /jə/ in Junior, Senior, Savior
As /uː/ in Suit
As /ɜː/ in Bird, Girl, Dirt
As /ɛ/ in Friend
As /æ/ in Timbre
As a SILENT LETTER in Business

And of course, the Letter i when it comes together with other letter like oi, io, ei, ie, iu, ui or ir means that there are even MORE ways to hear the letter i pronounced in English. Some examples are....

choice - ɔɪ
quiet - aɪə
deity - eɪə/eɪɪ
Jiu-Jitsu - u:
million - je

and many more which you will learn about in this video!

👉 There are A LOT of rules for how i should be pronounced and also LOTS of exceptions. So my advice is to immerse yourself as much as possible into the language and instead focus on getting a 'feel' for what the i sounds like in certain words. You will be very surprised because after a short time you will start to be able to 'guess' and 'feel' which sound is correct, just like a native speaker of English can!
