Helen Folasade Adu, known professionally as Sade, is a Nigerian-born British singer and songwriter and the lead vocalist of the band SADE.

On January 16, Sade celebrates her birthday. This video will be released publicly on YouTube on that day. This set is my gift to her and, above all, to all of you who support and follow my work.

Unlike my first SADE set, this one deliberately focuses on the bands most iconic songs. These are the songs through which many of us, myself included, first discovered their music. Instead of simply selecting my personal favorites, I wanted to do what matters most to me: tell a story. A love story, unfolding through the songs.

This set traces a journey shaped by desire, doubt, loss, and ultimately renewal. It begins with “Smooth Operator,” where attraction is polished but hollow, a relationship built on charm rather than truth. From the very start, there is unease, the feeling of being drawn to someone emotionally unavailable, planting the first seeds of doubt.

With “Is It a Crime,” the protagonist opens her heart completely. She loves deeply and without hesitation, questioning whether her intensity is too much or misunderstood. In “No Ordinary Love,” she faces the painful realization that devotion alone is not enough. Loving someone fully does not guarantee being loved back in the same way.

By “Soldier of Love,” the relationship has fractured. Wounded but unbroken, she chooses strength over surrender, learning to stand her ground and protect her heart. The journey ends with “Sweetest Taboo,” where love is rediscovered, freely, joyfully, and without fear. It is a happy ending not because love was easy, but because she returns to it wiser, stronger, and open again.

Some DJs keep commenting “where is the mixing” under my YouTube sets. But not every episode is meant for the club or a dancefloor crowd.
When I share music online, it’s less about flashy blends and more about storytelling through sound and lyrics.
For me, the magic is in the selection, the sequence, and the way one track emotionally leads into the next: like chapters in a concept album. Smooth mood transitions, occasional sharp pivots, lyrical progression, rising tension, soft landings…
And most importantly: most songs are perfect as they are. Why cut them short when every second is delicious! I love letting tracks breathe, unfold, and shine.
