Our perfectly quaffed lives with every need attended to, under the watchful eye of the Protectors, as the last bastion of humanity on earth… it didn’t make sense. If something had nearly wiped out human existence, why leave a proper paradise simply for us to carry on living in peace? Why have the Protectors always kept hidden the secrets of what happened to humanity? They always said that nothing was outside the walls, that nothing was past The Xeric. But the placement of these strange monoliths equidistant around the horizon from Happy Meadows told me otherwise. So, I made my escape, I stole a rover and I ventured out into The Xeric. As I approached the first monolith, I felt the ground beneath the rover vibrating and shifting. The area around the monolith seemed to repel the rover the closer I got, like the two north ends of a pair of magnets. These monoliths clearly hold a great power. What were the Protectors keeping hidden all these years? And what were they so afraid of?
