We were fortunate to have a mostly smooth flight from Nashville to Los Angeles despite a think band of weather stretching pretty much the entire width of the United States. There is a map of the flight path in the intro; however, the weather shown on the map does not actually align with what occurred. The slight notch in the flight path shortly after departure is actually the flight path cutting through the storms (even though they are shown much further west). Active weather maps at the time clearly showed the gap we were splitting in the storm. It was actually pretty impressive to see how they were able to find the gap. It was clear from Foreflight that other planes were not finding the gap quite as well. Either way it ended up being a pretty enjoyable flight and the lightning show was pretty fun to watch. The other side of the plane had the much larger cell and you could visibly see lightning bolts out the windows. Be aware that I sped up the footage going around the storm. I plan to publish a normal speed version of flying by the lightning somewhere down the road.
