For over eight decades, the Vienna Philharmonic’s New Year’s Concert at the Wiener Musikverein has been a marquee event on the music calendar, a joyful celebration in the Viennese style to begin each new year. Spectators reserve tickets a year in advance to see the Vienna Philharmonic in their trademark repertoire, but for the fifth year running, you can also catch every note on medici.tv.
For the 2026 edition, Canadian conductor and Rolex Testimonee Yannick Nézet-Séguin — a longtime partner of the Vienna Philharmonic dating back to 2010 and including, among other highlights, the 2023 Summer Night Concert — leads the New Year's Concert for the very first time. Their selection of festive works features waltzes, polkas, and other dance genres by the Strauss dynasty, Carl Michael Ziehrer, Joseph Lanner, Franz von Suppé, and Hans-Christian Lumbye, as well as Josephine Weinlich and Florence Price. Six pieces are making their New Year's Concert debut this year, including Eduard Strauss's Brausteufelchen, Weinlich's Siren Songs, and Price's Rainbow Waltz.
